Reopening

Dear Parent / Guardian,

The BoM and School Staff are looking forward to welcoming all our pupils and parents / guardians back to school for the 2020/2021 school year next Tuesday, 1st September.

We are satisfied that we have control measures in place to ensure that this will be a safe re-opening.  It will take some time for all of us to get used to the “new circumstances” as we become familiar with the new routines and procedures designed to keep everyone safe and to prevent the spread of the virus.  There will, undoubtedly, be some unforeseen challenges and we will deal with these as they arise.

In line with current guidance, primary school students should not wear face coverings.

Over the past number of weeks an enormous body of work has been undertaken to ensure the safe reopening of the school. Essentially there are a number of items that will need to be implemented to help ensure our school remains open:

Symptoms

If your child is displaying any Covid-19 symptoms they are STRICTLY not to come to school.

The current HSE list of symptoms is

  • High temperature
  • Cough (of any kind)
  • Shortness of breath or breathing difficulties
  • Loss of smell, of taste or distortion of taste

Further information on COVID-19 symptoms in children is available at: – https://www2.hse.ie/conditions/coronavirus/if-your-child-has-symptoms.html

Isolation Room

If your child displays any of the above symptoms your child will be escorted to the isolation room – here she/he will be given a face mask and supervised from outside the room by a member of staff until collected. We are told that children who are displaying any of these symptoms will need to be tested for Covid-19. Please contact your own GP for information should your child develop the above symptoms.

Further details of the isolation room and nationally agreed procedure is detailed in our school’s Covid-19 Policy which is on the school’s website. Foreign Travel Children who have travelled from countries not on the Green List should not attend school during the 14-day self-isolation period.

 Arrival and Collection Times

Please adhere to the times as laid out in a previous message. These are also available on the school website.

We would like to thank you for your co-operation in making preparations to date and look forward to working with you as we assist the children adapt to the necessary changes.  We are also conscious of the fact that our pupils have not been in school since March and that they are looking forward to coming back to school to meet their friends again.  We are aware that our new pupils are beginning a school year at a challenging time and have made plans to ensure that their arrival will be as free from stress as possible.
