Science Week

From the 8th to the 5th of November, Rang 5 & 6 embraced all things to do with Science during Science week and completed some exceptional Science experiments. They all learned so much as did their teacher: Ms Lucey. There are definitely many budding scientists and engineers in the school. They are hoping to share their experiments with the rest of the school before the end of the year.

Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Our ‘Christmas Shoebox appeal’ which took place in November was a great success as always. The students and parents of Dripsey National School carefully selected some beautiful gifts to send to children in disadvantaged areas of the world. The boxes were all wrapped beautifully and I’m sure they made some children very happy on Christmas day. Thank you all for your generosity.

Creative Schools Week

Great News:

It’s Creative Schools Week (November 4th – 8th)

We have a busy week ahead.

On Tuesday, November 5th Rang 1 – Rang 4 will be taking off to Cork City Hall to Cork Pops Orchestra. This event organised by CIT in Cork and in association with Cork County Council and RTE Lyric FM is headed by musical director Evelyn Grant. The theme this year is called Love Live Music and this years chosen pieces are inspired by nature. It’s an amazing experience for the children as they get to watch an Orchestra perform live. They also get to sing along to the music with guest performers. Parents/guardians can also get further information on the event at this link Back at school the children from Rang 5 & 6 will be working alongside the infants to create Art work and write Creative stories.

On Wednesday, November 6th, there will be Art stations in the hall where children will be invited to select a medium (paint/pencil/marker/ chalk pastel/ crayon/ marbling oil) and create an image.

On Thursday, November 7th some of the children’s Creative Work will be displayed in the hall; Poems, Stories and Art Work. All the classes will have the opportunity to come out and view each others work on Friday. It will be a great opportunity to share their Creative Skills and inspire one another.

Finally on Friday, We have a visiting Theatre Group coming to perform “The Bluebird of Happiness” for us all. Another live performance for the children to enjoy!

The Bluebird of Happiness

A visiting theatre group came to visit the school on November 8th. The children experienced a live performance in the school hall. Some were even included in the performance itself- it really was a fantastic day.

Cork Pops

1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th class went on a trip to ‘Cork Pops Orchestra’ in Cork City Hall on Tuesday November 5th. The theme of Cork Pops this year was Love Live Music and this year’s chosen pieces were inspired by nature.

Sciath Na Scoil

The Sciath na Scoil team played Firmount NS, Gaelscoil Mhuscraí, Rusheen NS and Rylane NS in football in September and October. We were in a very competitive group where our children did us proud by competing until the final whistle in each game. We are particularly proud of how well they played in our final game against Rylane NS on a lovely sunny day in Coachford.

Games Playing Day

Our Annual Games Playing day took place on October 25th. As always, the children had a very enjoyable day. The hall was all set up by Rang 5 & 6 and all the classes visited to join in the games. Some were even lucky enough to play extra games back in their own classrooms. Some money was raised for our selected charities: Dripsey National School Health Promoting Committee and The Irish Guide Dogs. Thank you as always for your support

St Mary’s Bicentenary Celebration

St Mary’s Church Bicentenary Celebration: Students from Rang 5 & 6 attended Berring’s hall to celebrate the Bicentenary of St Mary’s Church Berrings. They sang alongside Berring’s National School at this event. They represented the school exceptionally- at what was a very important event for the Parish. Thank you all!

Relationships and Sexuality Education

Dripsey NS are holding an information evening for parents of 5th and 6th class pupils on May 28th at 8 PM to inform parents of the  Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) programme that their children will learn.

This will be followed by a full day of the RSE programme for these pupils on June 19th.

Parents/Guardians must give permission for their child to partake in the programme on June 19th. If a parent/guardian does not wish their child to partake they may inform the school of this in writing.

Both of the above will be presented by Mary Looney  (RGN,SCM.RPN.) and will be delivered in a way which is light, fun and age appropriate.

The RSE programme incorporates the Busy Bodies programme which provides supportive information about the physical and emotional changes that children experience at puberty, and about how they can look after themselves as they grow up. Basic information about sexual reproduction is also given.

Congratulations to our chess teams from 5th and 6th class who partook in their first chess tournament recently.
